Barfly {More Than Just Cocktails}

It's pretty amazing when Abu Dhabi feels like the Mediterranean.  And incredibly rare.  Last week I went to a place that many people already know very well, especially if you are chic and cool and don't necessarily tote a baby around (ahem).  Barfly is a trendy bar and restaurant that caters to Abu Dhabi's stylish nightlife.  If you go for dinner, before the music starts at around 9 or 10pm, there is a relaxed atmosphere with lots of people eating outside on the waterfront in the now cool(er) night air. You sit outside as people stroll in and out and watch the speedboats bump across the waves. And you can almost feel that you are in a Mediterranean seafront city.

    They have a full bar and make some really creative and tasty cocktails at some of the best prices that I have seen in this city. Because Barfly is not in a super prime spot in the middle of the Abu Dhabi, they can charge a little less....and you get a nice seat outside.  While, many places that do cocktails well, don't always do food quite so well, with Barfly, this is not the case.   In terms of edibles, they identify as Asian Fusion (like many trendy places seem to do), serving a variety of dishes from ceviche to steak and even sushi.  But I have to admit I was really impressed.  Not only were there some great dishes, but it was all served exactly as it should be.  Hot and crispy was actually hot and crispy.

    I started with the Salmon Queen sushi roll which was super fresh with all the right textures in all the right places. And I am not a salad girl but I am actually still thinking about their Exotic Green Salad .  Very fresh lettuces mixed with a multitude of textures: seaweed, cherry tomato, avocado, cucumber and thin asparagus all lightly covered in an addicting citrusy vinaigrette.  The Dim Sum was also surprisingly fluffy and flavorful, sustenance for all those tasty cocktails.

I opted for the Grilled Scottish Salmon for my main dish, which I think is so far the best version of salmon that I have had in Abu Dhabi.  It is a thin crosscut filet caramelized in a miso marinade.  Crispy on the outside and juicy and tender within.  It is accompanied by small portion of another delectable salad with green mango and cashews. Presentation is also important for Barfly, and they take pride in making your plate look really pretty.  Although I would eat that salmon on a paper napkin.

So what makes Barfly better than the next trendy bar/eatery?
1. The outside space is classy and relaxing
2. The unique waterfront view
3. The well priced creative cocktails
4. The finely crafted food
PS. 5. They have lots of offers on now, so you can get some great deals on all of that good food and drink!
